Including the write up of my gaming session a couple weeks ago (which I figure must count because it is, technically, fiction), I seem to have reached my goal of 15k for the month. Unfortunately, this word count includes only two completed stories. Plus, it's merely an estimate as most of my writing this month has been by hand, and I haven't felt like counting every single word. I may be over the mark or under the mark but close either way. Yay for me!
Also unfortunately, I don't think I'll be doing AF again. Ultimately, I hope I won't need that kind of jump start next April. I don't plan on going through that horrible a writer's block at the same time every year. :) The problem for me was lack of progress tracking. I didn't pick up any kind of word count bar -- the AF specific ones were too pastel and girly for me (yes, I am female, but that doesn't mean I'm obliged to be girly). I think if there had been some kind of progress bar on my profile page that I could update daily and see under my user name if I posted on the forums a la NaNoWriMo, I might have been more keen on getting stuff done. It didn't help that I did so much of it by hand and lacked accurate word counts. It also didn't help that I didn't focus on any one project.
Still, I'm happy that I was able to use this to get myself back into the habit of writing daily. That, along with changing life circumstance and good medication, has gotten me out of that block. So now I just need to settle on something to work on and get to it.
Congrats to those of you who've accomplished your goals and good luck to those who aren't quite there yet. I'm sure I'll run into some of you again in November. Until then, happy writing!
